Kicken' Butt 06

My wife Shelly and I fished Eastern Bank out in the Straits of Juan De Fuca and caught this fish Sunday April 9th, 2006 on the 727 6" spoon. The fished weighed 56.5lbs and was 49" long. I want to Thank You for the color recomendations and I am all ears if you have any other tips to share.

Best Regards, Tim Johnson, Marysville , WA

Works Wonders

For some time know I have fished with Tomic Lures and always had great success. I have been fishing the Road Runner spoons (now just called Tomic Spoons) here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island since inception. This spoon works wonders in regards to Halibut and all salmon species. As a charter boat
Captain I need reliable lures that produce fish, all of our fish from offshore waters come from the Road Runner spoon. This has been the best lure since the Tomic Plug, which still works great. The spoon trolls at a
very slow speed, or a fast speed, which allows me to keep on the fish. Drift fishing for halibut is made simple with the Road Runner spoon, even with a light current the spoon works.

Thanks for making my job more rewarding.

Big Chinook in Shallow water

I leave my boat the Vagabond II at Ucluelet and fish every second weekend over the summer. In the last few years I'd been hearing that the guides had been getting Chinook between 40 and 55 pounds even early in the season but they were closed mouthed as to the where and what aspects. However, one guide did slip out that they were being caught shallow on big plugs.

Having worked two summers on trollers while going to university in the late 1970's I had a large collection of 6 and 7 inch Tomic plugs that I rummaged through. Trying a number of them at different depths I found that the fish preferred light colored ones but would only bite shallow as the downrigger was rising, indicating that they preferred the faster action. Yet, no fish over 30 pounds.

In mid August my brother came up from Tasmania for a fishing trip and on the way out to the banks he spotted something white drifting on the surface. On picking it up it turned out to be a 600 Tubby Tomic plug. I knew that Tubbies had a greater action at slower speeds so why not give it a try. We set out flashy gear deep on the starboard and port downriggers and had just laid out the plug line 30 feet behind the boat but didn't get a chance to rig it to the center transom downrigger as fish began to hit the other two lines.

After slowing the boat down to minimal speed and reeling in and releasing the two small Chinook, the middle rod and reel suddenly exploded as something hit the plug idling on the surface. Steve grabbed the rod as it was about to fly overboard, the reel screaming. A very large Chinook was flying through the air like a rainbow trout and then proceeded to try more of his prodigious bag of tricks to get free. Jumps, dives, twists and turns, all to no avail as his 38 pounds eventually ended in the net.

So several things were learned about catching large Chinook on the west coast of Vancouver Island in August:

    1) big plugs includes the 600 Tubby Tomic
    2) shallow can include the surface

Thank you for such a great product, Jonn Matsen

Dear Tomic Lures,
This story starts with my dad Ray (pictured on right) 2 years ago, who found the number 730 the 5 in multilure on the shore of Pere Marquette Lake. So he and my boyfriend Dan (pictured left) tried this bait for 2 years and were lucky enough to catch 23 salmon on it. The picture attached is from my brother Bobby's (pictured center) first salmon fishing trip, a short day of what becomes of this wonderful bait. All three fish were caught on that bait. Since then we've ordered new lures and can't wait to try them out in the 2006 season. Thanks for your friendly service and all the advice you've given us down here in Michigan. We'll keep you posted on the outcome of our new baits.

Sincerely,
Vicky H.

P.S. My dad did run into the guy who had lost the first Tomic he aquired. *grin*
As you can see he didn't return it..... :D

Kokanee in Oregon

I wanted to give you some feed-back on my experience with the Tomic Lures. On my last order, you included a free gift of a large roadrunner (aka Tomic Spoon) lure in a glow finish. As a Kokanee fisherman looking for an edge, I took off the large siwash hook and trolled using the Roadrunner (aka Tomic Spoon) as a small dodger rigged 10 inches ahead of a kokanee bug tipped with white corn. Wow!! It out fished everything else on the reservoir. I was also very impressed with the Wee-Tad in the 755 orange color. I consistently caught larger Kokanee and it held up very well.

I look forward to an exciting year of fishing with
Tomic Lures. John C, Burns Oregon

Commercial Salmon fisherman

Hello Catherine, hope all is well. Spoons have been working great, as are the TNT's. I enclosed a few pictures of a trip I made a month or so ago, most of the fish came on your spoons, about 3000lbs. Thanks alot! Erik

Dane and Salmon on Spoons

Just picked up my photos. Our trip was great, with easy limits. Lots of C&R time on the last 2 days. 6" cop car (#512) was the hot lure amongst the 3 boats that went fishing. Attached is a photo with me, fish, and my favorite roadrunner (a.k.a. spoon). Fish were in the 25-35lb range, with two 'bigs' at 38 and 39. Also caught and released a 15-17 pound coho on the new UV roadrunner (a.k.a. spoon, #530 UV Purple).

You have my permission to use this photo on your website- just let me know if you post it and I will send out the Tomic link to all my fishing buddies.

Thanks again for all your help! Most boaters that go up with us have become believers in Tomic!

Sincerely,

Dane S.

Lake Trout in Norway

Hallo Canada and Tomic,
My FIRST lake trout (Salmo Trutta) with the weight of 6,49 kg or 14,28 pound where caught on trolling on Saturday the 13th of August 2005 in Tyrifjorden, Norway. (Tyrifjorden is the fifth greatest lake in Norway, the size of the lake is 139 km2). The fish where caught on a Tomic - Tubby Tyee lure, color 398. I have been fishing in this lake for 35-40 years, but have never caught a lake trout before now. It was GREAT fun!!!!!!!!!

Flathead Lake Montana - 28 lb Lake Trout

Here you go Catherine but you will have to photo enhance the lure into the picture because I don't like to advertise what I am using in the contests I fish. But I will tell you some of the lures I paint to match the bait fish in the lakes are so old that the directions you give on your site for the pulled pin method don't work because the inside is different.

One of your lures was very close to one of my favorites. And I have taken a lot of 20 plus trout and Salmon with Tomics over the years from 6 different states. I fish them a different way I learned by trial and error and with help over 30 years ago form an old commercial fisherman

Cal in Alaska on the UV plug, #530:

Hi Catherine,
This weekend, I noticed herring in the bellies of fish, so I put the uv plug on the float bag (bottom spread), immediately hooked about a one hundred pound halibut, it was a ordeal trying to get the hook out of that fish without breaking the leader! (You cannot legally keep halibut as by-catch when commercial trolling). Anyway, I
saved the plug, and out of eighteen kings that day, I caught three kings on the plug....Guess what? The biggest of the day, came off the plug! I modified the hook, put one of those nasty 10/0 hooks on it. It was a thirty-five pound white....Dang, I didn't have a camera to take a pic...Plus, I was fishing alone. I told my friend about running the
plug, he is interested...It takes something special to get this person interested. So, the test is on! I will continue to check it out...I figure that the 550 made me about two hundred dollars the other day!

Rainbow Trout

The Tomics you sent are simply "works of art." They're absolutely beautiful. So beautiful that I dropped everything to go fishing today on Okanagan and gave a few of them a try. My good old 611 came through again with three nice rainbows between three and four pounds. Two are still smiling and one "sad one" will be supper tomorrow night. The real test will be next week during my first trip of the season to Arrow Lake. I'll keep you informed.

Fredric from Sweden:

This is Fredric from Sweden! I’ve had A HUGE SUCCES with tomic multi lure 7 inch...we have used them a lot and there are great for our northern pike and even large walleye!

George - from Alaska to Chesapeake Bay

As you well know Tomics are a great King Salmon lure (I used them for years commercial trolling in Alaska) and starting using them when I moved to the Chesapeake Bay about 6 years ago for Rockfish (Striped Bass). The are a consistent fall and winter "big fish lure" and I notice now they have become very popular among the charter fleet and the with sports anglers. Just goes to prove a "good lure" can work about anywhere.
Cheers,

George S.

Striped Bass and Bluefish

I have had fantastic results with the classic design (6") for striped bass and bluefish on cape cod (especially larger stripers). Problem is that I can't find anyone who has the brains to stock them. I found a couple in Essex MA and grabbed them. Glad you are on the web!

Scott G.
Andover, MA

We again had an outstanding season on Cape Cod using the classic Tomic. The fish seem to commit to the plugs with real gusto, I’m guessing due to the erratic motion. I’m also sending a picture of my wife with an average bass we took off Chatham this summer.

Scott G.

Victor in Scotland

You bet they’re working! I caught my first brown trout of the season on the first cast on the 14th of Feb on Lough Corrib. I was trolling a 3in silver and white tubby. The fish was 2.6 lbs. I also caught another 2 pounder at the pier of my boat club using a silver and white wee tad. The members were amazed. I have return three out of the four trout I have caught so far. The small hooks cause very little damage to the fish.

I hooked and lost an Atlantic salmon of at least 10 lbs using a 3in orange and yellow tubby last weekend. The salmon took the plug, which was been trolled just behind the outboard motor in about 4 foot of water.

Spring Atlantic salmon are making a comeback here, but are still very rare and difficult to catch. The summer fish are much more numerous.

The reason I am ordering more plugs is because normally I troll three rods and therefore need the quantity and variety of different plug sizes and colors. I prefer a violent action in a lure - salmon seem to be very attracted to this type of bait. I pull the pins on all my plugs and I have only lost one so far which I think was swallowed by a large pike. I wasn't using a wire trace.

I have only been out fishing four or five time this season so far.
Victor

Tomic a Classic in Alaska

Hello Catherine. Oh yes, finding your website has really been a joy. My family has been fishing here in SE Alaska since the late 50's to the late 90's.My uncle introduced me to the work and my Dad to the fun part. Both are gone now, but the memories of using your products-Plugs aka Cigars, pronounced Sea-gars, ha! live on. I now see where the rubber band trick came from! The cigars of choice are 140, 600, 602, 727, and 749. Thanks for the memories.

Take care,

Tomic Spoons and Plugs perform in Port Renfrew

My wife Tiffany and I just got back from an amazing trip to scenic Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island's west coast, fishing with Captain John Wells from Hind Sight Fishing Charters on his brand new fully equipped 26-foot Hourston Glasscraft fish catching machine!

We stayed at John's fisherman's guesthouse in Port Renfrew the night before our Charter trip. The accommodations in the three bedroom fully furnished house were very clean and comfortable and only five minutes to the boat.

We grilled up some steaks for dinner, watched a movie and went to bed early so we could meet our guide at 6:00 a.m. to head out for a day of fishing.

We met John at the boat, fired up the motors and headed out of the marina in search of halibut. We ran about 25 miles up the coast in calm seas. John put us on the spot and within 5 minutes, I had my first halibut on.

It was a nice 25 pounder! Tiff caught the next fish, followed by the biggest fish of the day, a heavy 55 pounder. My arms were sure burning after that one! We used short, stout rods loaded with braided line, spreader bars, 20 oz of lead and 6 inch spoons in green and white in less than 200 feet of water. John is a master at finding halibut. If we weren't getting bites within five minutes, he moved us to the next hole. We limited the boat within 45 minutes, picked up the gear and move closer to shore to target big Kings.

We started to troll for Kings at around 9:00 a.m. We used 7 inch Tomic plugs clipped to Scotty downrigger 180 feet down in 220 feet of water. The first pass over the spot yielded nothing, so John sensing the fish were a little further out, motored off shore to deeper water. Soon as we got the first pole down, it popped off the downrigger clip and reel started screaming. After a 10 minute battle, we netted our first salmon of the day. A real beauty at 22 pounds.

It was Tiffany's turn and on the next pass, she hooks up big. Tiff was grinning ear to ear and swearing like a sailor as she reeled in her prize.

She was rewarded with a 27 pounder. Way to go Tiff!

She hooks up again, this time with a nice hatchery Coho.

And yet again, I get out fished by my wife. Tiff sticks a nice 25 pounder posing for a pick with our Captain.

Next pass, just as we finished taking care of the Coho, my rod flies off the downrigger clip and buries to the water. John yells "fish on, fish on." We knew that it was a big fish, so John reels in the second rod so I can play and wear her out. The fish puts on a show and will not come to the net, but John won't stand for losing a fish so he climbs up on the gunwale and scopes her right into the boat.

She pegged the scale at a healthy 30 pounds.

We limited on big kings by noon and headed back to port for lunch, cold drinks and fish stories. The local pub fried some of our fresh halibut and chips and we ate and drank our fill of BC's finest and freshest fish with our new friends.

A picture says a thousand words.

This was an amazing trip we will never forget. Book a trip with Captain John Wells in Port Renfrew today! You will be glad you did.

Tomic in Alaska:

I had a great season in S.E. Alaska. I brought in the most kings and halibut for the whole lodge, and the weather was great. I fished in sandals and shorts most of the summer. I had great success with your lures, the plugs are always reliable and the paint job great, you wouldn't believe the teeth marks. The spoons worked very well. Thanks for the extras, one of them actually caught four halibut while trolling for kings. The TNT with hoochie worked on chums and pinks.
I still have a good supply, didn't loose any this year. I start trolling lake Ontario for kings in may then back to AK in June so I'll restock then.

Record trout caught on Tomic - Lure

A lake trout (Salmo trutta) with the weight of 15,84 kg or 34,89 pound where caught on trolling at Saturday the 20 of April in lake Vänern, Sweden. It is the biggest salmoid fish ewer caught in this great lake, the second biggest ewer in Sweden and if approved by the International Gamefish Association (IGFA), World record in line class 20 Ibs.

This trout from the stock of river Gullspångsälven was magnificent from a sportfishing point of view, it took nearly 45 minutes to get the fish in the boat, and gave me and my friend shaky knees and almost a nervous brakedown. Off course this was a dream fish for me and my friend in the boat team.

Almost immediately after the catch, I think that every sportfishing interested person in Sweden knew about the catch and a press release where send out by the Swedish representative of IGFA, Jan Olsson, and soon after the news where out in Swedish radio, newspapers and on internet sites that concerns sport fishing.

And now the fun for you, this fish where caught on a Tomic - Tubby Tee lure, color 737. Now we got e-mails and telephone calls from sport fishermen around Sweden that want to know what bait and colour, We has also heard that a lot of people already has went to sportfishing shops to buy Tomic tubby tee 737 and that some shops has ordered more tubby tee 737 (it´s a big trolling competition in lake Vänern this weekend probably around 300 boat teams).

We took a lot of pictures on the fish and some with the Tomic lure hanging in the mouth of the trout. Is Tomic interested in some of these photos for commercial use? We are more than interested in trying more models and colors, so perhaps we can get a good deal for both of us.

If you are please in some pictures please contact us so we can send you either digital cards or paper cards.
Your sincerely Tomic fans:

Laxcup Vättern - 97 Tomic Lures Do It Again !

1997 Laxcup Winner

For the third year in a row Tomic proved to be the lure to fish at Laxcup Vättems trolling competition held in Granvik in Sweden. The top placed teams showed once again how effective Tomic plugs are for catching Salmon. Bo Bjork used a Tomic 4 inch Classic in color Rainbow Pearl (#158) to lure the three day tournaments heaviest Salmon and win the prestigious Laxcup trophy. The size and color of that Tomic lure has proven to be the right combination for catching big salmon as it was also responsible for last years cup-winning fish caught by Ove Munter.

1996 Laxcup Winner

Team division winners Mr Fish & Friends took the lead in the final minutes when a large Salmon hit the greenback Tomic 4 inch Classic they were pulling behind their boat. This put them ahead of The Danish team Gok and Gokke (Laurel and Hardy) who also took all the fish that they weighed in using Tomic lures. For their first time, the Danish Duo were certainly appreciative of the tips they received on fishing with Tomic's from last years winner Ove Munter. Ove was also happy that the Danes shared their fishing knowledge with him. Three cheers for the sportsmanlike free exchange of information that make these contests fun and help the sport of fishing evolve.

Swedish Record LandLocked Atlantic Salmon

The record was caught on a #423 Tomic 4 inch Classic.

On October 27th 1997, Ali Holmqvist caught a 13.22 kilogram Salmon while fishing with his son in-law Peter Prag on Lake Vättern in Sweden. The 99 centimeter long Land-locked Atlantic was caught near the town of Granvik where the international trolling competition "Laxcup Vättern" is held every fall. It took 79 year old Ali about 20 minutes to reel in the fish which hit a Tomic 4 inch Classic lure in Rainbow pearl/silver insert color (#423).

A similar color Tomic plug, Rainbow pearl (#158) lured the biggest fish at last years "Laxcup Vättern" tournament and Tomic was the lure responsible for first place at "Laxcup Vättern"in 1995 and first, second, third and fourth place in 1996. The same type of colors; Rainbow pearl, Rainbow pearl pink stripe and Rainbow pearl glow in the dark, were also used a few weeks ago by a Team named "Full Rulle" to totally clean up at "Hasse's Cup" a trolling competition held in Motala on the other side of the Lake. This type of color is also recommenced by Tom Moss, owner and inventor of Tomic lures, for fishing after Salmon in Freshwater lakes.

West Coast Resorts
George Cuthbert - Lodge Manager

For over 15 years, I have relied on the Tomic Plug to provide exceptional sportfishing action. During my years as a salmon guide, I have used many versions this lure and have found them all to consistently produce. Now, as a sportfishing lodge manager, I have found additional value. With the reduction of bait available on the coast, the Tomic line of lures provide a reliable, productive and cost effective method of catching fish. With the growing emphasis on catch and release fisheries, these lures also allow anglers to successfully release fish with little damage.
We're anticipating another great salmon fishing season. We're looking forward to fishing with Tomic Lures.

Tomic Lures Ltd has always been a big part of my life. Like one of the family, I'll never go fishing without my selection of my Tomic's.

I've used these lures all over the world, Canada, Mexico, Florida, Costa Rica, Indian Ocean and the West Indies. Catching a huge variety of game fish. From Salmon, Trout, Tarpon, Wahoo, Snook, Jacks, Barracudas, Tuna, Spanish mackerel, Dorado, Halibut, Walleye, Bass and many more. Not once has there been a place where my Tomic's didn't work.

Tim Harrison Owner of Harrison's Cove Lodge,

It's time I wrote and told you what great plugs and spoons you guys are producing. Over the past few years we have been using your lures more and more and with great results. At one time we thought that the bait ban in our area was going to drastically reduce the amount of fish we would catch but, after fishing with your lures, experimenting with different colors and lure sizes, we have found them to be as effective as bait. Keep up the great production.

Tomic Lures have worked very well for me, since starting using them in 1997. I'm not sure how many species I've caught on the Tomic lures but here's the blunt of it. Kingfish, Cobia, Bonita, Blackfin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, (yes, a 12" Mackerel will try to eat a 6" Tomic Lure)Jack Crevalle, Amberjacks, Tarpon, Ladyfish and Barracudas and there are bound to be some I have missed. Actually, this just about the entire list of fish species in this area. On the smaller Tomics I have caught Snook, Trout, Redfish and Largemouth Bass.

When I got the Orange back, chartreuse belly Tomics, my Grouper catch picked up significantly. This is probably due to the fact that Orange is not a good Kingfish
color and I use it to avoid Kingfish. I hadn't been trolling Tomics for Grouper much because of the damn Kingfish. Here is a picture of Georgia Keiffer and me with a Kingfish caught on a Lt. green back/silver scale Tomic Lure.

The Gray back/silver scale, Green back/silver scale, Tan back/silver scale have all worked for Kingfish. My biggest lure caught Kingfish to date was caught on the Light green back/silver scale weighed 47 pounds, big enough to win most SKA fishing tournaments.

The smaller models about 4" long are killers for Spanish Mackerel, especially the Greenback/silver scale.

I troll a large Tomic, especially gold scale models in the Withlacoochee River every morning as I head out through the idle speed zone. I don't think I have any more of these left because Tarpon really bust them. When I have to slow down to idle, the Tomic goes out. It is a slow ride but Tarpon and big Jack Crevalle often liven up the day.

David Murphy

It is no secret that all West Coast Vancouver Island guides are using Tomic plugs. These lures are dynamite on big fish. When Chinook are eating herring and sardines there is no better bait than a Tomic plug. Tomic plugs weed out the small fish and let your gear stay in the water until a fish worthy of the size of the bait comes along.
Plugs are an essential tool in catching Chinook these days. With so many other species of fish crowding the feeding lanes we need a bait that small fish and non Chinook will pass up. Six and seven inch plugs are our choice in colors like 109, 700, 158, 212, 602.

The only problem I have with my Tomic plugs is deciding which one of my 400 plugs to tie on the rod.

I've only had my boat now for 3 yrs. A few yrs ago a friend told me about catching Rock Fish (Stripers) on your Classic lures. I ordered a couple and had success with them as a beginner. Got into it more seriously last yr and continued catching them, but only in the 18"-22" range because I still was a beginner. Have now learned a few more tricks of the trade and am going for the bigger ones this fall/winter. Two trips out and I've caught twice as many on my Tomics as the other guys have caught on their stuff. Ordered a few more because I only have one small one and one big one left and I think a buddy wants one. Will go for the big stripers as the weather cools some more and hopefully I'll also have success with my lures. Thanks for your service and for a good product.

John Wells; HindSight Charters

For some time know I have fished with Tomic Lures and always had great success. I have been fishing the Road Runner spoons (now called Tomic spoons) here on the West Coast of Vancouver Island since inception. This spoon works wonders in regards to Halibut and all salmon species. As a charter boat Captain I need reliable lures that produce fish, all of our fish from offshore waters come from the Road Runner spoon. This has been the best lure since the Tomic Plug, which still works great. The spoon trolls at a very slow speed, or a fast speed, which allows me to keep on the fish. Drift fishing for halibut is made simple with the Road Runner spoon, even with a light current the spoon works.

Thanks for making my job more rewarding.

Alaskan winter king salmon

Hope all is well with you and the staff at Tomic. Enclosed is a picture of a winter king taken a few weeks ago. This fish was taken on your old standby…a seven inch 232. I use combinations of bait, spoons, and hootchies while commercial trolling. However, the Tomic plug has a very important place in the gear line-up. I have discovered that running plugs will consistently catch larger fish than the rest of the gear combined!

I plan on a plug order with you in the near future. I will send some of my chewed-up patterns to be duplicated, and am interested in other “hot” colors to try.

Thanks,
